As the mornings get a chill in the air, it is an indicator that the summer season is winding down. Heading into the summer projections were calling for a flat year for sales and in conversations with businesses this summer season was very unpredictable. Midweek days sometimes proved to be strong sales days and days when events or cruise ships were in port proved to be busier days as well. In order to better assess our small businesses economy we want to hear from you.
Main Street is going to conduct twice yearly surveys where businesses can answer a few questions to give us a barometer on where our local business economy is at. This information is shared confidentially with Main Street and businesses won’t be identified without giving permission. Responses will be summarized to better tell the story of our local economy. Main Street wants to better understand our local economy, adjust our work to meet the needs of small businesses, and connect with our community to keep vitality strong.

Main Street wants business engagement, we want to collaborate on strategies to drive business, and have a healthy local economy. Main Street wants to advocate for the businesses and organizations in town on issues that impact them. Some examples of that include downtown trash management and our recent meeting with the City of Port Townsend Planning team on historic preservation code. By participating we want to develop strategies, events, promotions that support the vitality of the historic business district, Port Townsend businesses, and the city at large.
