“Art Wave” Student Art in the Stores in Uptown/Downtown
For the month of May, Historic Districts’ merchants are showcasing student artwork, created in the Port Townsend Schools, for “Art Wave!” Children’s pieces of art installed as part of this promotion. The “Art Wave” exhibit celebrates children’s creative expression through art and is a collaboration with participating Port Townsend businesses. The funds raised will help support diverse offerings by PTArtscape including the Teaching Artists Programs at Salish Coast Elementary, Blue Heron School, and Port Townsend High School, and professional development for teaching artists. Once again, PT Artscape Donation Jars are in a number of participating businesses; all proceeds from the jars will go directly to art education programs for PTArtscape and toward art supplies for children’s art projects at local fairs and in classrooms.

PT Artscape began in 1998 and provides visual arts in the Port Townsend Public Schools, grades K-12. Over the years, program offerings have evolved with the changing and increasing interest and engagement of teachers. Since May of 2023 PTArtscape has facilitated ‘Bunker’, a successful free Teen Art program on Friday nights hosted by Northwind Art at Fort Worden. PTArtscape is visible at local fairs facilitating various art making opportunities for children and families.
PTArtscape relies on funding from grants including Port Townsend Arts Commission, and local generous donors who wish to support kids and art.
The Art Wave promotion is coordinated by the Port Townsend Main Street Program in partnership with PT Artscape.
