Executive Director Position
The Port Townsend Main Street Program seeks an Executive Director to lead its award-winning nonprofit. The ideal candidate is a dynamic, versatile and creative problem-solver who is detail-oriented, with a positive attitude, and able to build consensus. Goal-oriented, proven grant-writing ability, fundraising, special event and budget management skills required.
- Supervisory skills to oversee the work of staff, contractors and volunteers essential.
- Nonprofit administration background, and familiarity with the Main Street approach desired.
- Excels in team leadership, organizational and project management.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, writing/communications, and public speaking skills required.
- Familiarity with social media platforms is desired.
- Ability to forge new and collaborative relationships with stakeholders, partners, grantors, the media and other agencies.
- Ability to multi-task and thrive in an exciting, fast-paced environment.
Full-time position in Port Townsend. Salary range $60,000-$70,000. Benefits: Medical/dental/vision, sick/vacation/ paid holidays. EOE.

Executive Director Job Description & Duties:
PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Oversee day to day operations of our program, implementation of workplans, partnerships and public buy-in to meet our goals and fulfill our mission to preserve, promote and enhance the historic districts of Port Townsend.
- Supervise staff, contract help and volunteers on current programming/projects.
- Budget: identify goals with board and oversee budget.
- Follow board direction to develop, meet and exceed programming goals
- Lead, participate in the planning and development of new programming and projects in consultation with the board and committees as capacity allows and as established by the annual workplan and budget.
- Implement program policies developed by the board.
- Conduct annual employment reviews with staff
MEETINGS/REPORTING
- Help develop agendas for board and committee meetings with exec/committee chairs.
- Schedule and help coordinate promotion, design and economics meetings.
- Provide monthly reports to the board, attend board and committee meetings.
- Monthly meetings include: Exec Committee, Board of Directors, Promotion Committee.
- Design meetings occur every other month.
- Economics meeting schedule: tbd in 2025—Loan program deadlines March 15 and Oct. 15. Assist the City with Creative District transition through Spring 2025.
- Provide necessary information for sponsor appeals and funding requests.
- Develop workplans with committees, hold annual board and promotion retreats with input of committee members;
- For Economics Loan Committee, liaise with committee, write press releases to promote loan deadlines, send meeting notes to City attorney office with committee recommendation if projects apply.
- Provide quarterly activity reports to the City and ask board to assist with quarterly presentations to City Council to provide program updates.
- Participate in Washington Main Street meetings quarterly throughout the year, fulfill reporting requirements, attend “Places Conference” (attendance required).
- Attend national Main Street America conference -budget dependent. Fulfill accreditation requirements/reporting with the board. Identify and integrate Transformation Strategies with the board.
- Attend appropriate community meetings, networking meetings, City Council.
- Participate in regular LTAC Meetings every other month, and special meetings as requested (nonvoting)
- Attend City meetings when requested and participate in the City’s monthly marketing branding meetings in 2025 per LTAC Contract.
BUDGET/FUNDRAISING/SPONSORSHIP
- Support board in securing program sponsorships.
- Apply for City/LTAC Funding in appropriate cycles; PTMS 2025 Prof. Services Contract is $150,000. Do reporting.
- Manage the City Lodging Tax Funds $15,000 for 2025 winter season promotion.
- With Design Committee, oversee implementation process and purchase of new lighted decorations for pocket parks in 2025 –LTAC $10,000 commitment.
- Work with City on Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) when needed/appropriate.
- Sponsor cultivation, build relationships through events/projects.
- Maximize Main Street Tax Incentive Program contributions with board assistance.
- Support board in other fundraising efforts (membership, event fundraisers, crowd-funding campaign).
- Apply for grants as instructed by the board as time/resources permit.
- Fulfill grant requirements and reporting (ArtsWA, LTAC, Master Gardeners etc.)
SPECIAL EVENT PLANNING
- With the Promotion Committee, create a calendar of event promotions, deadlines and marketing strategies to make the promotion of the Historic Districts a success.
- Coordinate and supervise the details of special events and fundraisers with the board/staff/contractor/volunteer assistance—20+ events in 2025.
- Make sure the deadline for city permits, liquor permits, banner permits etc. are met by Marketing Coordinator.
- Pursue donations, in-kind gifts/services with the help of the Board and Promotion Committee.
- Recruit/meet with/orient volunteers. This task can be shared with the Board Volunteer Coordinator.
- Work with Concert on the Dock Music Programmer to help select bands, along with Marketing Coordinator.
- Coordinate Uptown Street Fair Planning Committee meetings and offer band/entertainment suggestions for the annual event.
- Supervise LTAC-funded downtown Greeter Program (expanding in 2025).
- Debrief promotion activities, make notes for ideas going forward.
OUTREACH
- Support board on conducting outreach for Main Street Tax Incentive Program. Help set up meetings with potential donors, solicit donations and do necessary follow-up.
- Provide talking points for board for memberships outreach and service club presentations (Marketing Coordinator to assist with visual presentations)
- Write scripts for public speakers as needed (emcee scripts, Council presentations etc.)
- Work with Marketing Coordinator on annual marketing pieces: rack card, sponsor and member brochures, annual report, holiday wrap up report.
- Proofread e-newsletters, write press releases, media contact, public relations, develop campaign themes, place event/campaign ads, PSAs with Marketing Coordinator.
- Apply for annual Washington State Main Street Program “Excellence on Main” awards for our work if there’s an appropriate project (typically August deadline).

Port Townsend Mobile Greeter
🚲 Hiring: Mobile Visitor Greeter – PT Main Street
Join the Port Townsend Main Street team this spring and summer and become the face of our vibrant city! Navigate downtown on an e-cargo bike, engaging with visitors and sharing the charm of our community.
- Position: Mobile Visitor Greeter
- Duration: (May through September)
- Hours: 11AM-4PM
- 2-3 days a week, 12- 18 hours a week; schedule to be determined
- Pay: $25/hr ; this is a contract position.

Ideal candidates are outgoing, can confidently ride a bike, ability to lift 50 lbs, friendly and patient demeanor, familiarity and knowledge about Port Townsend’s many amenities, iPad proficiency, and handle physical tasks. Other duties as assigned.
Note: Must have own health insurance.
Customer service or tourism experience is a plus!
